BONCOURA BONCOURA

BONCOURA clothing reveals itself over time.

It is not complete from the beginning.

As it becomes part of the wearer’s life,

its true character gradually comes to light.

Whiskers, honeycombs, and traces of wear
slowly take shape.

It may be difficult to say exactly
how they came to be,

yet they are unmistakably yours -
time worn into the denim.

Just as time brings out the beauty in a person,

BONCOURA clothing continues to evolve.

This is the beauty we hope to create.

Learning from “the Beauty of Everyday Use,”
Listening to the Nature of the Material

Materials reveal the truth.

The character of each fibre.
The feel of each yarn.

The subtle expression of
each fabric.
We seek to understand how to
draw out the full potential of
every material.

By listening to what each
material has to say,
the story of BONCOURA begins.

What we look for in a material
goes beyond weight or thickness.

It is the presence of the fabric.
The feeling it gives the moment
it touches the hand.
How it
changes through wear,
and
what it reveals over time.

We believe true beauty appears only after a garment has been
lived in—

quiet, natural, and
never asking to be noticed.

The value of a material is not
determined by its price or
rarity.
It lies in how much
can be drawn from it.

From the twist of the yarn to
weaving, dyeing, sewing, and
finishing, every process is
carefully
considered in search of the
form that allows the material
to express itself most fully.

Less is more—but only when
the balance is right.

To bring a material to life is to understand what to add,
what
to leave out,
and where to
stop.

That point of balance lies at the heart of BONCOURA’s
craftsmanship.

We do not simply choose
a material. We read it, feel it,
and listen to it,
slowly coming

to understand its true nature.

Only then do we give it form—

not by forcing it into what we want it to be,

but by allowing it to become what it was meant to be.

This is how BONCOURA
clothing is made.

Design
is a Choice

After the material
comes design.

For BONCOURA, design is not
decoration.

It is what remains after every
choice has been considered.

Why this shape?
Why this detail?
Why was it made this way?
We study vintage clothing not to
repeat the past,
but to understand
the purpose behind it.

What should remain.
What
should change.
What belongs today.

This is how BONCOURA
approaches design.

To understand vintage is not simply to study clothing from the past.

It is to read the culture held within it—
the spirit of its time,
the intention of its maker,

and the years lived by those who wore it.

By feeling the texture of the fabric,
we begin to sense
how it was woven.

By following every stitch and every stage of construction,
we return to the workshop of its time—
to the sound of
the machines

and the hands that once guided them.

The shape and angle of a pocket.

The way a rivet was set.
The position of a button.
Today, we may call them details.
But each was once a decision—
shaped by purpose, necessity, and the life surrounding it.
This is how BONCOURA reads vintage clothing.

Observation.
Imagination.

Reflection.

We trace the garment back to its origin—
to the reason it came to exist.

We love vintage clothing,

but we never see it as something merely to admire.

Sometimes, there is no single right answer.

we find meaning in what remains.
We pass that meaning through our own lens,

reimagine it through the sensibility and
techniques of the present,

and elevate it into something new —

something timeless in its own
right.

This is the philosophy behind
BONCOURA.

Spinning

Where a Yarn Begins to Evolve

What sets BONCOURA denim apart begins
with the way its yarn is spun.

Rather than choosing from existing yarns,
BONCOURA begins with raw cotton and

develops each yarn from the ground up.
The choice of cotton, the proportions in which
different fibers
are blended, the shape and character of the yarn,
and the way it is twisted are all carefully considered.

By studying the thickness, length, and individual
qualities of each fibre, BONCOURA blends different
cottons to
create its own original yarn—one
developed not only to achieve a particular texture
in the finished fabric, but also
to shape the way the denim will evolve through wear.
Through repeated sampling, adjustment, and
experimentation,

a single original yarn gradually takes form—one
designed to bring out the character of the raw
materials

and grow richer with time.

This yarn is where BONCOURA denim truly begins.
It is the foundation upon which everything else is
built,

and the core that defines its essential character.

Dyeing

Quietly, Deeply, Through and
Through

The colour held within BONCOURA denim is never accidental.

We use only pure indigo, carefully developing our own dye
concentration
for the rope-dyeing process to bring out the full beauty
of both its
colour and the way it fades.

Indigo is not simply a matter of depth.

No matter how deeply the yarn is dyed,
the color never reaches its very core.
It is precisely this quality that allows subtle shifts

in tone and gentle variations to emerge through wear,

giving each pair its own distinct expression.

BONCOURA finds beauty in this process
of change.

Daily friction, washing, and sunlight —

The accumulation of

everyday life gradually breathes life into
BONCOURA indigo.

Weaving

Woven Slowly, with Time
and Care

BONCOURA’s original yarns, spun from a carefully
considered blend of
selected cottons, are woven slowly on vintage
power looms.

The looms are operated at a soft, low tension,
allowing the yarns to
retain their natural fullness and creating
a fabric with a soft, airy structure.

It is a deliberate choice to take time—an approach
entirely opposed to
the speed and efficiency of modern mass production.

Only a small length of fabric can be woven each day.
Yet for BONCOURA, this is the only process worth
pursuing: one that places
no unnecessary stress on the yarn and carries
the cotton’s natural volume,
texture, and expression into the finished fabric.

It is not simply about weight,

nor is it merely about irregularity.

Its expression gradually emerges through wear,

while its texture gains depth with time.

It is through this final stage of weaving—carried
out slowly and
with the utmost care by skilled craftsmen—
that the fabric is truly brought to life.

Only through this time, patience, and hands-on
craftsmanship
can BONCOURA create a denim entirely
its own.

And so, the finished fabric takes form as a roll
of cloth—

quietly, yet with an unmistakable presence.

Sewing

Choosing the Right Method
for Each Era

For BONCOURA’s signature five-pocket jeans,
including the 66 and XX models,
cotton thread is used throughout the construction.
It may not offer the same durability as synthetic
thread,

but over time its colour changes, it settles into
the fabric, and
develops a richer expression of its own.

The thread weight, thread colour, and stitch length
are selected individually
for each model, according to the period and
background on which it is based.

These are not decorative details,
but expressions
of how BONCOURA interprets each era.

The garments are sewn using vintage sewing
machines that have become increasingly rare today.

The subtle variations and distinctive character of
their stitching bring the atmosphere of the period
into even the smallest details, giving the finished
garment a quiet sense of depth.
